Egyptian Hibiscus flowers

There are several hundred species of hibiscus, but Egyptian Hibiscus (Hibiscus Sabdariffa) is widely renown for its many medicinal properties. It is most often consumed as an herbal tea, served hot or cold. The tea tastes tart, almost like the flavor of cranberries. The plant is rich in antioxidants and anticancer properties.

Uses and Benefits:
- Studies have suggested that hibiscus may lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and could help people lose weight.
- Hibiscus extract has been shown to improve liver health.
- The plant helps fight many bacterial infections, such as the bacteria E. coli, which causes cramping, gas and diarrhea.
- In one study, the plants extract was successful in fending off eight different strains of bacteria and was considered equivalent to some medications when it came to fighting off bacterial infections.
Egyptian Hibiscus contains polyphenols, these are compounds with anticancer properties. Hibiscus extract demonstrated the ability to inhibit or reduce cancer growth in various studies.
